Hazel M. (Seal) Greene

August 11, 1933 ~ February 6, 2022 (age 88)

Obituary

Hazel Margaret Seal Greene of Sneedville, TN, was born August 11, 1933 to Dana B. Seal and Lillie Pearl Jarvis Seal. She joined her precious Lord and Savior and family members on Sunday, February 6, 2022. She professed her faith in Christ as a young adult often sharing her testimony of how she thought she was saved as a child, but later in life she realized she wasn’t. She was at home with her two children Margaret, around age 5, and Dennis, a baby. She spoke of how burdened she became that night and Dennis was sick and crying and how she thought if she laid him down, he might die. She said she finally just laid him down and said, “Lord, if he dies, he just will”, as she knelt by the bedside. She said she didn’t know if he cried another cry or not, but she came up rejoicing knowing without a doubt that she was saved. (Of course her baby Dennis was fine.) She was a faithful member of Yellow Branch Baptist Church where she taught the children’s Sunday School class for over 50 years. She loved singing in church with her dear friends and family and also with The Gospel Five. She loved her church family immensely. After her health declined, she held Bible Study in her home on Sunday afternoons.

She also babysat several children through the years where she not only loved them dearly, but also taught them about The Lord.

She worked in the healthcare field for 17 years as a certified nursing assistant. She also worked in the respiratory and physical therapy dept at Hancock Co. Hospital. She was a Charter member of the Hancock Co. Rescue Squad Crewettes.

She worked on a farm for many years and continued to garden for as long as her health permitted. She was an accomplished seamstress, decorator, and fabulous cook, known for her fried apple pies. She clearly had a love for helping others. One of her favorite things was taking “stuff and things” and turning it into something beautiful. She took up painting and playing piano later in life and took great joy in them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband who was the love of her life for 38 years Judge D. Greene, daughter; Margaret Fraysier, sons; Dennis and Jimmy Greene, grandson; Jonathan Mills, great grandchildren; Noah Winstead and Angel Greene, brothers; Ulys, Homer & Junior Seal and Ralph Trent, sisters; Peggy Boyd and Edna Topper; and most recent, her friend and Dr., John Short M.D.

She is survived by her daughters; Priscilla (Dean) Mills and Patricia (Carl) Reed. Grandchildren; Justin (Brittany) Greene, Jessica McClure, Heather Fraysier, Michelle (Mike) Vaulton, Alyce Greene, Julianne Greene, Jessica (Charles) Greene, Lorrie Johnson, and Macy Reed, great grandchildren; Leo, Colton, Hunter, Shyane, Haleigh Raye, Morgan, Madison, Noah, Jaxson, Dennis Anthony, Savannah, Lily, Remington, Teonia, Emmanuel, Alayna, and Moses, great-great granddaughter; Addison, brothers; Bill Seal, Don (Donna) Seal, sisters; Grace Strine and Barbara (Bob) Peragoy, daughter in law; Ginger, special sister in law; Ester Seal, cousin; Buster Jarvis, special niece; Joy Collingsworth, and friend Juanita Greene Williams, “grandchildren” who she babysat for years and who knew her as “Mamaw”; Allie, Kylee, Kenna, and Jared.

A special thanks to all of her home caregivers who she enjoyed spending time with and loved dearly; Margaret, Deanna, Amelia, Betty, Opal, Leann, Ginger, Jessica, and Sandy, who all took the best care of her; the staff of Amedysis Home Health and long time nurse friends; Sherry, Marilyn, and Trish; Hancock Home Health, Dr. John Short’s office, Phyllis Dossett, Dr. Goh, Dr. Fisher, and all the staff at Hancock County Hospital and Dr. Gupta & staff for providing exceptional care.

Hazel always made sure to teach her family the importance of salvation and of God’s love. To continue her life’s dedication and work, we ask you to please always spread the love of Jesus and try your best to introduce at least one person to Christ.
