Grover Terry Marion, age 76, of Sneedville, Tennessee, and New Castle, Indiana, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. He was born on December 7, 1944, in Hancock County, Tennessee. Terry attended Seal-Mathis Elementary School and Hancock County High School in Sneedville, Tennessee, and he graduated from Walter P. Chrysler High School in 1964 in New Castle, Indiana. Terry proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1964-1967 and was a Vietnam veteran. He later attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky, and Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
After 40 years of service, Terry retired from General Motors in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, Indiana. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Castle, Indiana. Terry was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9543 in Rogersville, Tennessee, and he was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Additionally, he was a charter member of Lee-Piedmont Camp #1761, Sons of Confederate Veterans – Virginia Division.
Terry loved tending to the family homeplace in Rhea Hollow and spending time with his sons in Indiana. He was an avid reader and a student of history, particularly the Revolutionary War and Civil War eras. All that knew him quickly became aware of his love and interest for genealogy. Terry enjoyed researching his family history and the history of Hancock County.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Henry Lee Marion and Emma Marion, his brother, D. Allen Marion, his brother, John C. Marion, and his nephew, David Todd Chriswell. He is survived by his two beloved sons: Elijah Marion and Andrew Marion; former wife and mother of his children, Shelia Marion; three siblings: Brenda Chriswell, Fred Marion and wife Judy, and Dale Marion and wife Jackie; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other friends, family and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021, at the McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville, Tennessee, with Pastor Kester Bunch officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service. A graveside service will be held following the funeral service at the Marion Family Cemetery in Mulberry Gap. The funeral procession will leave McNeil Funeral Home following the funeral services.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Marion, Fredrick Marion, Greg Marion, Jimmy Brewer and Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Seal and Ronnie Cantwell.
