Frances Nadine Barker, 77, of Sneedville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27 in the year of our Lord 2021. Through her mother’s example of faith, Nadine chose at a young age to ask Christ into her heart. God was her refuge, her strength and an ever-present help in trouble. This native daughter of Sneedville, TN lived many places and established life-long connections with those that God placed in her life. Nadine was born November 26, 1944 to James P. and Mary L. Williams of Sneedville, TN who preceded her in death, both washed in the blood and made anew by the gift of Jesus Christ by the hand of God. She is also preceded in death by her brother Floyd Williams.
Nadine is survived by her husband of 59 years, Samuel A. Barker Jr, who cared for her with loving devotion and patience, full-time, for the last six years. Nadine’s loving sons also survive her - Samuel Shemer, Jeffrey, Joseph, and Jonathan Barker and their wives Cathy, Kelley, Kristi, and Debbie. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren - Andrew, Abigail, Chloe, Jacob, Isaiah, Samuel, Michael, Tristen, Amaris, and Elyse & 7 great- grandchildren. Nadine is also survived by her brothers and sisters; John Williams, Betty Finazzo, Bert, Mary Lou Hatfield, and James T Williams.
Ruth Moles and Laura Betts, Nadine’s nieces, have been a blessing in our lives that exemplify Christ’s undying love for his people. The enduring care and friendship of Mary Lou Hatfield and James T Willams has been a fount of encouragement. We thank God for Pastor Dustin Jessee and Phil Harrison of First Baptist Church in Sneedville, Anna Mae Seal for their regular calls, visits, prayer and encouragement over the years, and Fred & Deanna Tankersley for blessing us with their songs.
We pray that God’s blessing will be ever-present in the lives of those that helped care for Nadine’s physical and medical needs - many of whom boldly called on the Holy Spirit and prayed with her and Sam on visits. Erica Dearing’s loving care, the ministry provided by Hospice Care, Avalon Hospice, Sandy Tharp, and Homehealth will forever have the gratitude of our family.
When you hear the leaves rustle in the trees, remember Nadine and a verse that she liked to sing: “You will indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12
