Rector Kyle Greene

February 2, 1932 ~ April 6, 2019 (age 87)

Rector Kyle Greene, age 87, born February 2, 1932, passed away Saturday night, April 6, 2019.  He was saved at a young age and was a member of Stony Gap Baptist Church for more than 75 years.  He served the Church as song leader and deacon for many years.  He was a member of the Clinch River Quartet for approximately 40 years and sang at numerous funerals.  He was a 32’nd degree mason in the fraternal order of the Lodge and a member of the Eastern Star.  He served his community in many ways that included an integral part in the initiation of the outdoor drams, “Walk toward the Sunset”, and a member of the Hancock County School Board of Education.  Kyle was a farmer at heart and ended his career in that capacity.  He was a self-educated expert on livestock health and management and helped many people with their livestock herds.  Kyle was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Beulah Stapleton Greene; and three brothers, Earnest Tilford & wife Mildred, Bill Jack & wife Nancy and Alfred Taylor & wife Georgia; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Jennings, Bruce Cox, Houts Adams & Paul Brown

He is survived by;

His wife of 62 years; Betty Jo Trent Greene

Sons; Rex Allen Greene & wife Ruby and Billy Bruce Greene & wife Nancy

Grandchildren; Amanda Docia Greene Helton & husband Andrew, Penny Nicole Greene, Mary Elizabeth Hazare & husband Megraj , and Andrew Kyle Greene & wife Katy

Great-Grandchildren; Jonah Cole and Noah Drew Helton, and Henry Niles Hazare

Sisters; Cleo Brown, Ara Tess, and Kay Adams

A host of special friends, including Paul Weston and David & Sadie Trent

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Stony Gap Baptist Church

Rev. Howard Johnson & Rev. Alonzo Collins officiating

Interment will follow in the Greene Family Cemetery

Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews, Doug Greene, Dan Greene, Eddie Jennings, Ronnie Greene, Tom Greene & Kenny Greene

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Earnest Greene Jr., Lawrence Greene, Jess Trent & Carl Collins

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 P.M. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Stony Gap Baptist Church
